FRAMOS Cameras with Intel® RealSense™ Technology

The D400e products from FRAMOS bring state of the art Intel® RealSense™ stereo depth sensing technology into the industrial environment. The series offers full bodied IP66 rated cameras, and board level modules for easy and flexible integration into your design.

The series supports long cable lengths with Gigabit Ethernet and are equipped with dust-and-water resistant housings. The bodied cameras include robust M12 connectors to allow deployment into the most demanding environments. Active stereo depth sensing technology allows the D400e products to excel in both indoor and outdoor applications, independent of ambient lighting conditions.

These 3D cameras must operate in harsh production environments. Stable and latency-free data transmission over longer distances is as important as uncomplicated integration. These features make 3D vision easy to integrate in severe environments, even with multiple cameras. 

The D400e cameras and modules are compatible with a proprietary version of Intel®’s RealSenseTM SDK2.0, allowing you to leverage your existing code base when coming from the USB cameras in an almost plug-and-play manner.
The series enables real-time positioning; orientation and tracking for robots; navigation of autonomous transport systems (AGVs); and, many other “smart” machines, like medical technology, logistics, the automotive industry, or smart agriculture.

The Intel® RealSense™ Depth Sensing Portfolio

Intel® RealSense™ offers a wide range of vision technologies, from LiDAR, stereo depth and SLAM to facial authentication, supported by an extensive open-source SDK. Two important product lines in the portfolio are the D400 series and the L500 series cameras and modules. Both series help customers ensure that they can add three-dimensional vision capability to their products or systems. The difference: the D400 series is based on stereo vision (“stereo depth”), while the L500 series is based on Lidar technology. They feature an integrated ASIC that performs real-time depth calculation directly on the camera, saving you processing resources on the host system. The SDK allows you to further tune the depth data stream to your needs.

The Intel® RealSense™ D400 and L500 series cameras

The Intel® RealSense® D400 series depth cameras are high resolution active stereo cameras that are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications in a wide range of lighting conditions. Also, they can be installed in multi-camera configurations without the need for special calibration. The D400 series cameras consist of three variants: the D415 depth camera (standard field of view, rolling shutter), the D435, or D435i (extended field of view, global shutter), and the D455 (extended field of view, global shutter, extra wide basline ).

The L515 is the world’s smallest and most energy-efficient solid-state Lidar depth camera. It uses a MEMS mirror to scan the environment and is designed for creating 3D images with high frame rates, superior resolution, and high accuracy. The underlying technology of the L515 LiDAR depth camera allows to achieve higher edge definition than the D400 series stereo cameras, even at a range of up to 9 meters. This advantage makes it superior to stereo vision systems in certain application areas, where distinction of filigree or close objects is a requirement. The working range, edge sharpness, and compactness of the L515 depth camera is utilized by the logistics industry, for example. The short pixel exposure time of less than 100 ns minimizes motion blur artifacts even with fast-moving objects, like packages on a conveyor belt. In addition to logistics, many other applications can be found in industry and robotics, 3D (body) scanning, healthcare, and retail.

Intel® RealSense™ Depth Modules

The core of Intel® RealSenseTM depth cameras, as well as the FRAMOS Industrial Depth Camera D400e series, are the RealSense D400 series depth modules. The modules are ready-to-use stereo camera systems, available in multiple configurations: With different baselines, field of views, shutter type and with or without implemented RGB sensor and/or IR laser projector. Together with the Intel® RealSense™ Vision Processor D4 ASIC card with USB-C interface, or the FRAMOS D4 visual processing board offering Gigabit Ethernet, the modules allow greater design flexibility, without the need to spend time developing your own stereo depth systems. Both boards are equipped with the eponymous Intel® RealSense™ Vision Processor D4, providing real-time stereo processing.
