Line scan sensors consist of one-dimensional pixel arrays with resolutions from 1K to 8K. Semiconductors, wafers, textile webs, paper, lumber, food and other long, continuous, moving objects can be analyzed quickly and precisely for defects during manufacturing.

The CCD or CMOS sensors read image data line by line with high resolution, speed and sensitivity under short exposure times. Due to their pixel size and low noise (high SNR), line scan sensors offer a very high image quality. These sensors are ideal for applications where very high resolution images are required at under high speeds. Some examples include continuous inspections directly on a conveyor belt, barcode reading for the sorting of packages or quality inspection using spectroscopy.

Line sensors are available in monochrome and color, with color sensors providing true 24-bit color images. In conjunction with Camera Link interfaces, line scan sensors offer the highest possible, while GigE Vision interfaces offer high resolution with simple and cost-effective integration. Uniform lighting – critical to getting the best image quality for any sensor or camera - is achieved with matching linear array LED lights.
