The pre-programmed ISP chips process image data as a programming unit on the sensor. They offer a wide range of features for direct image enhancement and reduced development time.

The actual downstream image processing takes place directly on the chip with the help of PSP architectures and FPGAs, thus reducing the development effort allowing applications to be implemented quicker and easier.

Graphic elements programmed as overlays on the coprocessor, for example, provide cross-fades for rear-view cameras in automotive applications making them easier to park.

Distortions and de-warping of lenses can also be resolved before the actual image processing or inspection. With the settings held directly in the periphery of the sensor, expensive development steps are often not necessary and the vision system is developed faster and with a significant reduction in costs. When choosing a coprocessor, it is important to always select it based on the specific image sensor.
