High temperature soldering, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and cleaning agents can damage the sensor and its pixel structure during camera or system assembly. Sensor sockets are soldered onto the circuit board (PCB) instead of the sensor to avoid sensor damage during production. In this same way, PCBs can be recovered when with a faulty sensor is soldered to it.
